BALASAHEB GANGADHAR KHER
- Balasaheb Gangadhar Kher was born on 24 August 1888 in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra.
- He was a lawyer by profession.
- He twice served as the CM of Bombay State from 1937-1939, and from 1946-1952.
- He later served as India’s ambassador to Portugal, and also as High Commissioner of India to the UK between 1952-1954 .
- Balasaheb Gangadhar Kher died in 1957.
MORAJI DESAI
- He was born on 29 Feb 1896 in Valsad district of then Bombay Presidency ( present Gujarat ).
- He was first elected to a legislative Council in 1934.
- He served as the CM of Bombay state from 1952 to 1956
- He served as India’s Finance Minister from 1958 to 1963.
- He died in 1995.
YASHWANTRAO CHAVAN
- Yashwantrao Chavan was born on the 12 March 1913 in Devarashtre village of Maharashtra .
- In the Indian Independence struggle , he participated in the Quit India movement .
- Among all the CMs he holds the distiction of being of being Bombay state’s last CM from 1956 to 1960 , and Modern Maharashtra state’s first CM from 1960 to 1962 .
- He was India’s Deputy PM during Charan Singh’s tenure as PM , besides being Union Minister for Home , Finance , Defence and External Affairs in different stints .
- He died on the 25 November 1984 .
MARROTRAO KANNAMWAR
- He was born in 1900 .
- He was first elected to the Saoli Vidhan Sabha constituency in 1957 .
- He was re-elected from the above mentioned constituency in 1962 legislative Assembly election .
- He served as the 2nd CM of Mahahrashtra .
- He died while in office , in 1963 .
P K SAWANT
- Parshuram Krishanji Sawant was born in 1905 .
- He’s notable for serving as Interim CM from 25 Nov 1963 to 4 Dec 1963, following the death of Marotrao Kamanwar .
- He represented Chipun constituency in the Maharashtra Legislative assembly from 1962-1978 .
- Before becoming CM , he was Home Minister in his predecessor’s Cabinet .
- He died on 29 October 2000 .
VASANTRAO NAIK
- Vasantrao Phulsingh Naik was born on 1 July 1913 in the territory of Modern-Yavatmal district of Maharashtra .
- He served as a member of Legislative Assemblies continuously from 1952-1979 .
- He served as the CM of Maharashtra from 1963-1975 .
- He’s considered the “ Father of Green Revolution in Maharashtra .
- He died on the 18 August 1979 .
SHANKARRAO CHAVAN
- He was born on 14 July 1920 in Aurangabad district .
- He became an MLA in 1956 , as a member of the Bombay Legislative Council .
- He served as CM of Maharashta twice from 1975-1977 to 1986-1988 .
- In addition , he also served as the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commison besides being Union Minister for Home Affairs , Finance , Education and Defence
- He died on the 26 July 2004 .
VASANTDADA PATIL
- He was born in the Kolhapur district of Maharashtra .
- While being active in politics since 1937 , he first served as a State-level Cabinet Minister from 1972- 1976 .
- He seved as CM twice between 1977-1978 and 1983-1985 .
- He also served as Governer of Rajasthan from 1985-1987 .
- He died on 1 March 1989
SHARAD PAWAR
- Sharad Pawar was born on the 12 December 1940 in Baramati dist of Maharashtra .
- He was first elected as an MLA in 1962 , representing the Baramati Assembly constituency .
- He holds the distinction of serving as CM for 4 non- consecutive terms the first being from 1978-1980 , the second being from 1978-1980 , the third being
from 1988 to 1991 and the fourth being from 1993 to 1995 . - In 1999 he founded the Nationalist Congress Party ( NCP ) .
- Outside the Political realm , he has also served as the President of BCCI from 2005-2008 and as the President of International Cricket Council from 2010 to 2012 .
A R Antulay
- He was born on 9 February 1929 , in Raigad district .
- He was first elected as an MLA in 1962 , representing the Shrivardhan Assembly constituency .
- He served as CM between 1980 and 1982 .
- He also served as Union Minister for Minority Affairs , as well as Minister for Health and Family Welfare , Minister of Water Resorces , River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation .
- He died on the 2 December 2014
BABASAHEB BHOSALE
- Babasaheb Anantrao Bhosale was born on the 15 January 1921 , in Satara district .
- He first contested in State Assembly elections in 1978 , but lost . Later , in 1980 , he was elected as an MLA
- After becoming an MLA , he handled the Law and Judiciary portfolios in AR Antulay”s government .
- After 2 years , he went on to serve as CM between 21 January 1982 to 1 February 1983 .
- He died on the 6 October 2007 .
SHIVAJIRAO PATIL NILANGEKAR
- Shivajirao Patil Nilangekar was born on the 9 February 1931 .
- He was first elected as an MLA in 1962 representing Nilanga constituency , and he held on that constituency till 2014.
- He served as CM from july 1985 to March 1986 .
- He founded the “ Maharashtra Education Trust “ in 1968 .
- He died on the 5 August 2020 .
SUDHARRAO NAIK
- Sudhakarrao Rajusing Naik was born on the 19 August 1934 in Yeotmal distict of Maharashtra .
- He started his Pol career in 1976 , when he was elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Council on a Congress ticket .
- He served as Maharashtra CM from 25 June 1991 to 22 February 1993 .
- He also served as Governer of Himachal Pradesh from 1994 to 1995 .
- He died on the 10 May 2001 .
MANOHAR JOSHI
- Manohar Joshi was born on 2 Dec 1937 at Nandavi in Raigad district of Maharashtra .
- He started his political career in 1986 by joining the Shiv Sena , and was soon elected as BMC member in 1968.
- He 1995 , he created history by becoming the the first Non-Congress and Brahmin CM of Maharashtra .
- Between 2002-2004 , he was the Speaker of the Lok Sabha .
- Manohar Joshi recently died on the 24 February 2024 .
NARAYAN RANE
- Narayan Rane was born on 10 April 1952 in Bombay .
- He started his political journey in 1985 , as a Municipal Councillor ( as Shiv Sena member ) in the Chembur area of Mumbai Municipal Corporation , became an MLA in 1990 .
- He then served as CM from 1 February 1999 to 17 October 1999 .
- After that he served as Union Minister of Micro,Small and Medium Enterprises in between 2021-2024 .
- As of writing , he’s a member of the BJP .
VILASRAO DESHMUKH
- Vilasrao Dagadojirao Deshmukh was born on 26 May 1945 in Latur district .
- He entered active politics in 1974 , and was elected an MLA in 1980 .
- Prior to becoming CM , Deshmukh has held many important portfolios at State level , such as Home, Revenue, Education, Agriculture ministries among some others.
- He has twice served as Maharashtra CM , the first time being from 1999-2003 , and the second time being from 2004-2008 .
- He died on the 14 August 2012 .
SUSHILKUMAR SHINDE
- Sushilkumar Shinde was born on the 4 September 1941 .
- He started his Pol career by joining the Congress party in 1971 , and was consequently elected as an MLA in 1974
- He became CM in 2003 and served in this post till 2004 .
- Between 2012 and 2014 , he served as the leader of the House in Lok Sabha .
- Additionally , he has also served as Governer of Andhra Pradesh , Union Minister for Home Affairs , and Power.
ASHOK CHAVAN
- Ashok Shankerrao Chavan was born on the 28 October 1958 .
- He first became an MP in 1987 , representing Nanded Lok Sabha constituency .
- He served two terms as CM , the first one being from 2008-2009 and the other after 2009-2010 .
- In addition , he has served State Minister for industry,mining,State Border Defence ,School Education, Protocol among several others
- In 2024 ,he joined the BJP .
PRITHVIRAJ CHAVAN
- Prithviraj Chavan was born on the 17th March 1946 .
- In 1991 , he first became an MP .
- He was sworn-in as CM on the 11 November 2010 and served as CM till 2014 .
- His tenure as CM is notable for starting the Mumbai Monorail .
- In the 90s and early 2000s , he’s served as member of various Central government Standing Commitees such as those of Science and Technology , Finance and Planning , Defence to name a few .
DEVENDRA FADNAVIS
- Devendra Gangadhar Fadnavis was born on the 22 July 1970 .
- He became an MLA for Nagpur Southwest constituency in 1999 and has ever since held that seat .
- On 31 October 2014 , he was sworn-in as the First BJP CM of the Maharashtra in 2014 .
- Under his administration 2014-2019 , the government initiated various projects and institutions such as the Nagpur-Mumbai Expressway , Navi Mumbai airport , State-level Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System ( CCTNS) .
- As of writing ,he’s the Deputy CM of Maharashtra
UDDHAV THACKERAY
- Uddhav Thackeray was born on the 27 July 1960 .
- He became the General Secretary of the Shiv Sena in 2004 , and took over as Shiv Sena President in 2012 .
- He became CM on the 28 November 2019 , and served in the position till the 30 June 2022 .
- He’s an Allumni of the reputed JJ School of Art .
- He has also published 2 photo-books , “Maharashtra Desh” in 2010 and the “Pathava Vittal” in 2011 , that describe detailingly about Maharashta’s historical and artistic heritage .
EKNATH SHINDE
- Eknath Shinde was born on the 9 February 1964 .
- He initiated his Political career as a Shiv Sena party worker in the 1980s .
- Eknath Shinde became Thane district Shiv Sena head in 2005 .
- He has continuously served as MLA representing the Kopri-Pachpakhadi constituency from 2004 .
- He was sworn in as maharashtra CM on the the 30 June 2022 .
