BALASAHEB GANGADHAR KHER

  1. Balasaheb Gangadhar Kher was born on 24 August 1888 in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra.
  2. He was a lawyer by profession.
  3. He twice served as the CM of Bombay State from 1937-1939, and from 1946-1952.
  4. He later served as India’s ambassador to Portugal, and also as High Commissioner of India to the UK between 1952-1954 .
  5. Balasaheb Gangadhar Kher died in 1957.

MORAJI DESAI

  1. He was born on 29 Feb 1896 in Valsad district of then Bombay Presidency  ( present Gujarat ).
  2. He was first elected to a legislative Council in 1934.
  3. He served as the CM of Bombay state from 1952 to 1956
  4. He served as India’s Finance Minister from 1958 to 1963.
  5. He died in 1995.

YASHWANTRAO CHAVAN

  1. Yashwantrao Chavan was born on the 12 March 1913 in Devarashtre village of Maharashtra .
  2. In the Indian Independence struggle , he participated in the Quit India movement .
  3. Among all the CMs he holds the distiction of being of being Bombay state’s last CM from 1956 to 1960 , and Modern Maharashtra state’s first CM from 1960 to 1962 .
  4. He was India’s Deputy PM during Charan Singh’s tenure as PM , besides being Union Minister for Home , Finance , Defence and External Affairs in different stints .
  5. He died on the 25 November 1984 .

MARROTRAO KANNAMWAR

  1. He was born in 1900 .
  2. He was first elected to the Saoli Vidhan Sabha constituency in 1957 .
  3. He was re-elected from the above mentioned constituency in 1962 legislative Assembly election .
  4. He served as the 2nd CM of Mahahrashtra .
  5. He died while in office , in 1963 .

P K SAWANT

  1. Parshuram Krishanji Sawant was born in 1905 .
  2. He’s notable for serving as Interim CM from 25 Nov 1963 to 4 Dec 1963, following the death of Marotrao Kamanwar .
  3. He represented Chipun constituency in the Maharashtra Legislative assembly from 1962-1978 .
  4. Before becoming CM , he was Home Minister in his predecessor’s Cabinet .
  5. He died on 29 October 2000 .

VASANTRAO NAIK

  1. Vasantrao Phulsingh Naik was born on 1 July 1913 in the territory of Modern-Yavatmal district of Maharashtra .
  2. He served as a member of Legislative Assemblies continuously from 1952-1979 .
  3. He served as the CM of Maharashtra from 1963-1975 .
  4. He’s considered the “ Father of Green Revolution in Maharashtra .
  5. He died on the 18 August 1979 .

SHANKARRAO CHAVAN

  1. He was born on 14 July 1920 in Aurangabad district .
  2. He became an MLA in 1956 , as a member of the Bombay Legislative Council .
  3. He served as CM of Maharashta twice from 1975-1977 to 1986-1988 .
  4. In addition , he also served as the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commison besides being Union Minister for Home Affairs , Finance , Education and Defence 
  5. He died on the 26 July 2004 .

VASANTDADA PATIL

  1. He was born in the Kolhapur district of Maharashtra .
  2. While being active in politics since 1937 , he first served as a State-level Cabinet Minister from 1972- 1976 .
  3. He seved as CM twice between 1977-1978 and 1983-1985 .
  4. He also served as Governer of Rajasthan from 1985-1987 .
  5. He died on 1 March 1989 

SHARAD PAWAR

  1. Sharad Pawar was born on the 12 December 1940 in Baramati dist of Maharashtra .
  2. He was first elected as an MLA in 1962 , representing the Baramati Assembly constituency .
  3. He holds the distinction of serving as CM for 4 non- consecutive terms the first being from 1978-1980 , the second being from 1978-1980 , the third being
    from 1988 to 1991 and the fourth being from 1993 to 1995 .
  4. In 1999 he founded the Nationalist Congress Party ( NCP ) .
  5. Outside the Political realm , he has also served as the President of BCCI from 2005-2008 and as the President of International Cricket Council from 2010 to 2012 .

A R Antulay

  1. He was born on 9 February 1929 , in Raigad district .
  2. He was first elected as an MLA in 1962 , representing the Shrivardhan Assembly constituency .
  3. He served as CM between 1980 and 1982 .
  4. He also served as Union Minister for Minority Affairs , as well as Minister for Health and Family Welfare , Minister of Water Resorces , River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation .
  5. He died on the 2 December 2014

BABASAHEB BHOSALE

  1. Babasaheb Anantrao Bhosale was born on the 15 January 1921 , in Satara district .
  2. He first contested in State Assembly elections in 1978 , but lost . Later , in 1980 , he was elected as an MLA
  3. After becoming an MLA , he handled the Law and Judiciary portfolios in AR Antulay”s government .
  4. After 2 years , he went on to serve as CM between 21 January 1982 to 1 February 1983 .
  5. He died on the 6 October 2007 .

SHIVAJIRAO PATIL NILANGEKAR

  1. Shivajirao Patil Nilangekar was born on the 9 February 1931 .
  2. He was first elected as an MLA in 1962 representing Nilanga constituency , and he held on that constituency till 2014.
  3. He served as CM from july 1985 to March 1986 .
  4. He founded the “ Maharashtra Education Trust “ in 1968 .
  5. He died on the 5 August 2020 .

SUDHARRAO NAIK

  1. Sudhakarrao Rajusing Naik was born on the 19 August 1934 in Yeotmal distict of Maharashtra .
  2. He started his Pol career in 1976 , when he was elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Council on a Congress ticket .
  3. He served as Maharashtra CM from 25 June 1991 to 22 February 1993 .
  4. He also served as Governer of Himachal Pradesh from 1994 to 1995 .
  5. He died on the 10 May 2001 .

MANOHAR JOSHI

  1. Manohar Joshi was born on 2 Dec 1937 at Nandavi in Raigad district of Maharashtra .
  2. He started his political career in 1986 by joining the Shiv Sena , and was soon elected as BMC member in 1968.
  3. He 1995 , he created history by becoming the the first Non-Congress and Brahmin CM of Maharashtra .
  4. Between 2002-2004 , he was the Speaker of the Lok Sabha .
  5. Manohar Joshi recently died on the 24 February 2024 .

NARAYAN RANE

  1. Narayan Rane was born on 10 April 1952 in Bombay .
  2. He started his political journey in 1985 , as a Municipal Councillor ( as Shiv Sena member ) in the Chembur area of Mumbai Municipal Corporation , became an MLA in 1990 .
  3. He then served as CM from 1 February 1999 to 17 October 1999 .
  4. After that he served as Union Minister of Micro,Small and Medium Enterprises in between 2021-2024 .
  5. As of writing , he’s a member of the BJP .

VILASRAO DESHMUKH

  1. Vilasrao Dagadojirao Deshmukh was born on 26 May 1945 in Latur district .
  2. He entered active politics in 1974 , and was elected an MLA in 1980 .
  3. Prior to becoming CM , Deshmukh has held many important portfolios at State  level , such as Home, Revenue, Education, Agriculture ministries among some others.
  4. He has twice served as Maharashtra CM , the first time being from 1999-2003 , and the second time being from 2004-2008 .
  5. He died on the 14 August 2012 .

SUSHILKUMAR SHINDE

  1. Sushilkumar Shinde was born on the 4 September 1941 .
  2. He started his Pol career by joining the Congress party in 1971 , and was consequently elected as an MLA in 1974 
  3. He became CM in 2003 and served in this post till 2004 .
  4. Between 2012 and 2014 , he served as the leader of the House in Lok Sabha .
  5. Additionally , he has also served as Governer of Andhra Pradesh , Union Minister for Home Affairs , and Power.

ASHOK CHAVAN

  1. Ashok Shankerrao Chavan was born on the 28 October 1958 .
  2. He first became an MP in 1987 , representing Nanded Lok Sabha constituency .
  3. He served two terms as CM , the first one being from 2008-2009 and the other after 2009-2010 .
  4. In addition , he has served State Minister for industry,mining,State Border Defence ,School Education, Protocol among several others
  5. In 2024 ,he joined the BJP .

PRITHVIRAJ CHAVAN

  1. Prithviraj Chavan was born on the 17th March 1946 .
  2. In 1991 , he first became an MP .
  3. He was sworn-in as CM on the 11 November 2010 and served as CM till 2014 .
  4. His tenure as CM is notable for starting the Mumbai Monorail .
  5. In the 90s and early 2000s , he’s served as member of various Central government Standing Commitees such as those of Science and Technology , Finance and Planning , Defence to name a few .

DEVENDRA FADNAVIS

  1. Devendra Gangadhar Fadnavis was born on the 22 July 1970 .
  2. He became an MLA for Nagpur Southwest constituency in 1999 and has ever since held that seat .
  3. On 31 October 2014 , he was sworn-in as the First BJP CM of the Maharashtra in 2014 .
  4. Under his administration 2014-2019 , the government initiated various projects and institutions such as the Nagpur-Mumbai Expressway , Navi Mumbai airport , State-level Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System ( CCTNS) .
  5. As of writing ,he’s the Deputy CM of Maharashtra

UDDHAV THACKERAY

  1. Uddhav Thackeray was born on the 27 July 1960 .
  2. He became the General Secretary of the Shiv Sena in 2004 , and took over as Shiv Sena President in 2012 .
  3. He became CM on the 28 November 2019 , and served in the position till the 30 June 2022 .
  4. He’s an Allumni of the reputed JJ School of Art .
  5. He has also published 2 photo-books , “Maharashtra Desh” in 2010 and the “Pathava Vittal” in 2011 , that describe detailingly about Maharashta’s historical and artistic heritage .

EKNATH SHINDE

  1. Eknath Shinde was born on the 9 February 1964 .
  2. He initiated his Political career as a Shiv Sena party worker in the 1980s .
  3. Eknath Shinde became Thane district Shiv Sena head in 2005 .
  4. He has continuously served as MLA representing the Kopri-Pachpakhadi constituency from 2004 .
  5. He was sworn in as maharashtra CM on the the 30 June 2022 .
